About the Event

Boost your confidence in your skills at bedside nursing in rural or urban acute care settings. This workshop is helpful for those staff working in Long-term care, Home care and Clinics who are planning to transition to hospital acute care, medical and surgical care department.

Course Objectives:

a) Acute care unit expectations and guidelines

b) Admitting and assessment

c) Discharge teaching and process

d) Patient transfers – interfacility and in-hospital

e) Policy and procedures awareness

f) Unit-specific competency checklist

g) Unit specific Disease conditions

h) Unit-specific interventions

i) Unit-specific medications

j) Unit-specific surgical procedures

k) Unit-specific diagnostic procedures and process

l) Hand over report

m) Time management

n) Daily unit flow – staff-to-patient ratio

o) Daily routines

p) Unit-specific vitals machines, bedside monitors, and glucometer education

q) VTE prophylaxis

r) Mobility assessment

s) Fall prevention, risk management, and identification

t) Tubes and drains assessment and management review

u) Unit culture/background

v) RLS process

Prerequisites recommended for Internationally Educated Nurses only:

1) IEN Path to Success Workshop

2) Physical assessment and lab review

3) Basic and 12 lead ECG interpretations

Upon successful completion of the 8-hour workshop, each participant shall receive a certificate of attendance.
